    June 2023

    Hello Members,

Our June Meander followed the tried and tested formular of coffee at our meeting point, followed by a pleasant drive and finally lunch. Sure makes for a great day out.

This month's participants were George Kallidis, Tony Murphy, Paul Maisey Chris Bothams, Kent Bush and me.

We met for coffee at The Organic Circle, located in Pioneer Village Armadale. Despite the coffee being organic it tasted very nice. As did the muffins. We spent some time chatting and catching up (a little too long truth be known, my fault). Then we set off through the Perth Hills, passing Churchman Brook Dam and Araluen Botanic Park. Arriving at a special interest place, The Perth Observatory. A drive which all the Z pilots thoroughly enjoyed.

We spent about an hour in the Perth Observatory Museum and grounds taking in the history of this Perth icon. Very interesting and enjoyable.

Then it was just a short drive to our lunch spot. The Core Cidery. We responsibly had a sample of their wares and indulged in some very fine pizzas.

Another very enjoyable day out with likeminded Zed Heads. Hope that you can join us soon.

    Midweek Meander 25 May

Today’s meander started off with coffee at Yahava KoffeeWorks in the Valley.  Thanks to Peter Hall’s weather forecasting crystal ball and scheduling skills it was a beautiful Autumn Day.  Peter, this is the standard that we expect for future runs.

We had 8 Zeds and 10 Members and guests participating. Photographs of participants enjoying a coffee and of the Zeds gleaming in the sun are enclosed as attachments 1-4.

Following a pleasant coffee it was time to head to the Victoria Hotel in Toodyay. Given that Peter had a passenger, a well known club member who will remain nameless, it was decided that Peter would lead the way as he had a "navigator".  This was a mistake as navigation is not a skill that track drivers must develop.   As we progressed along Toodyay Road our "navigator" was allegedly commenting that it was the longest strait he had experienced without a chicane.

It was a very pleasant run and almost too soon we arrived at the Victoria Hotel where we followed our lead vehicle, following the instructions of his  "navigator" into the hotel car park.  I ask members to review photograph 5 and determine if there was an issue with our car park entry.

Following a very pleasant lunch Peter led the group home taking a detour along a section of the Targa West route.  Peter was noted securing his phone with google maps to a holder on the windscreen before departing.   Again the Zeds enjoyed the open road as we drove home.

    A most enjoyable day.

    Midweek  Meander 27 April 2023

Today’s meander started off with morning tea at Pasta in the Valley as a meeting place and then on to The Lakes roadhouse along Great Eastern Highway.

The weather looked threatening but did not break all day. The roads were dry and no rain dared to dampen the cars or our spirits. We had three drivers today willing to risk it.

Apologies received from Kent Bush, Peter Hall and Roger Bennetts. Sounded like they really wanted to come but life got in the way this time.

We were graced with the presence of the owner of Pasta in the Valley for a morning tea chat about why things were so much better before!!

Left to right: Mick Hailand, The Big Boss, Paul Maisey, Tony Murphy.

This time we have added a small competition for spotting 5 road signs along the way. Tony is holding the hint sheets.

After a couple of hours, and before we settled in for the day, we decided to move on and head up Greenmount Hill on the way to The Lakes roadhouse.

Three Z’s roared up the hill in the outside lane. One 240Z, one 260Z and one 280ZX – all three marques together.

Outside Sawyers Valley we were able to blow out the cobwebs from under the cars until we reached The Lakes roadhouse and parked.

Mick’s 240Z has just been run in and was happy to get out and about. It has a chassis number of S30-000105!!!

Paul has just completed the full nut and bolt restoration of his silver 260Z 2+2 up in Glen Forrest. It had been on the rotisserie for two and a half years.

The 280ZX in the background is watching them both like a big brother.

Competition hint sheet was a bit cryptic but Mick ended up with the greater score and got the prize.

After lunch and much Datsun tragic’s  topical discussion it was back to Perth and down the hill once more. Cars garaged by about 3pm.

October's Mid-week meander was another very pleasant day out with our little group. We started the day with a coffee at Kings Park, then meandered our way along the coast to Mullaloo. There we enjoyed a scrumptious pub lunch.

Thanks to Roger for organising the outing and for playing "mother duck" and keeping all of his brood of Zeds in a group for the drive.

Stand by for more news on next month's adventure.

    Midweek Meander September 2022

This month’s (September) Midweek Meander was organised by George Kallidis, and what a great job he did.  The weather was near perfect, and the destinations and the coastal drive were excellent choices. We had the best turn out yet for the meander, nine participants and seven Zeds.

Thanks, George, for a great day out.
